TOUR FEAST IN EPIRUS

Gastronomic tour to the Greek continent

by ferry to the Epirus region (10-12 hours)

Ioannina (Giannina) – Metsovo

Epirus is a region of Greece opposite Corfu, located across the strait of the Ionian Sea, in the mountains of Pindus. The name itself means “mainland” – this is how the inhabitants of Corfu from ancient times called what they saw from the island. The main city and the capital of Epirus is Ioannina (Giannina).

The ferry will take us from the port of Corfu Town to the port of Igoumenitsa (1.5 hours), and then along the Egnatia odos autobahn, we will drive through the mountains of Epirus for 50 minutes to the capital of the region, which is 480 m above sea level.

If this is not your first visit to Greece, then you will immediately notice the external difference of Epirus from other areas: the uniqueness of architecture, the appearance of local people, the diet.

We will act according to the program discussed in advance:

  • Perama Caves is a unique place where you will see caves with stalactids and
stlagmids.A walk through the magical tunnels takes about 50 minutes. The
beauty and richness of the caves’ surface allows it to compete with the most
    famous caves in the world.
  • A walk in the Ioannina Fortress, where the Old Town is located used to be
Muslims residence. You will definitely remember unusual buildings of the
Ottoman type and the Fethiye Mosque, which is one of the 3 non-functioning
    mosques of Ioannina.
  •  A boat trip on Lake Pamvotida to the islet “Nisi”, where we will visit the
museum of Ali Pasha Tepelensky and the monastery of Philanthropos, where
lives the only nun, Paisia . A visit to the Church of the Assumption of the
Blessed Virgin will not leave you indifferent due to the style of the icons and
    extraordinary grace.
  •  Then we can have lunch in one of the taverns of Nisi island with local
delicacies: an unusual Greek salad, lake crayfish, carp or frog legs in batter…
  •  We will walk along the narrow streets of the island, where traditional
Ioannian sweets and souvenirs are sold.
  • After lunch we will go even higher, driving Epirus tunnels and bridges for half
an hour on the autobahn, to walk along the streets of the mountain village of
Metsovo, which 1160 meters above sea level. It is called “Greek Switzerland”
because of the atmospheric buildings in the mountainous area, where it’s
often snowy in winter. Here we will taste Greek coffee, taste and buy local
    sweets, cheeses, wines and spices.
  • Returning to the port of Igoumenitsa will take us 1.5 hours and 1.5 hours on a
ferry to the island of Corfu.

The feast in Epirus will be a success! It will be delicious – we promise!
