GRACE OF CORFU

Pilgrimage and beauty of Corfu

(except Monday from 08.30-14.00)

Corfu is famous for its shrines. There are 20 active monasteries on the island, the same as on Mount Athos.

The most famous of the shrines:

  • The Church of the Blachernae Mother of God is located on a small
island in the water, to which leads a narrow strip of land. The
monastery is considered a symbol of the island of Corfu along with
Pontikonisi, a mouse island. Guests of the island are taken there
by a small boat from the Blachernae temple. The place is also
famous for the ideal point of taking beautiful photos of planes
landing exactly above your head. The patronal feast of the temple
    is July 2.
  • The Temple of Pantokrator is on the Mouse Island (Pontikonisi).
You will meet the inhabitants of Pontikonisi – Achilles (the dog),
Kaiser (the peacock) and Hector (the cat). Here you can buy
traditional souvenirs of Corfu, enjoy the beauty of the Ionian Sea
and the taste of real Greek coffee. Patronal feast of the temple on
    August 6.
  • The monastery of the Holy Great Martyr Euphemia is famous for
its shrines and ancient icons. There is the only nun named Kerkyra
who lives here in complete seclusion. Feast in the monastery – July
    11 and September 16.
  •  The Monastery of Our Lady of Kasopitra in Kanoni is famous for
the icon that restores injustice and cures eyesight. The rector of
the monastery is Schema-Archimandrite Polycarp, a disciple of
Paisios the Holy Mountaineer. He lived on Mount Athos next to
the old man for 5.5 years. There are a huge number of relics from
all over the world in this monastery. The museum was organized
by the labors of the priest. Patronal feast of the monastery is on 8
    May.
  •  Monastery of St. Paraskeva of Rome in Kinopiastes, which is
famous for the Russian icon that helps in vision and childbearing.
Patronal feast of the monastery is on 26 of July. The monastery
was founded in 1571. Mother Nymphadora and her sisters serve
    here.
